Community impact

HOW WE GIVE BACK.

Texas hospitality means showing up for our neighbors. We partner with local causes to protect our shared heritage and support the people who make this region great.

Gruene Music & Wine FestivaL

For 40 years, this festival has been our favorite way to bring folks together. We don’t just host it for the music; we do it because every dollar raised goes to the United Way to help our neighbors in Comal and Guadalupe Counties.

SIMS FOUNDATION PARTNERSHIP

We believe in looking out for the musicians who keep the Texas spirit alive. By partnering with the SIMS Foundation, we’re helping provide mental health and wellness support for the people who make the music we all love.

Ongoing Charitable Donations

Being a good neighbor means showing up when it counts. Whether it’s sponsoring a local dinner or supporting a cause brought to us by a regular, we believe in giving back to the community that has given us so much over the last 50 years.

Community Involvement

We take a “hands-on” approach to our towns. Our leadership stays active in our local chambers because we know that we are only as strong as the business community around us.

500+ LOCAL CAREERS

Beyond the buildings, our greatest contribution is our people. We are proud to provide stable, meaningful careers for over 500 neighbors across Central Texas. By investing in our team, we’re investing in the families and the future of the communities we call home.

San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo

For over 25 years, Gruene Hall and the Molak family have supported the San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo and Junior Livestock Show by purchasing livestock at auction from local students, helping those students fund their education.

GUIDED BY INTEGRITY AND HUMILITY, WE REMAIN DEEPLY LOYAL TO OUR LEGACY WHILE INTENTIONALLY SHAPING THE FUTURE.

We are proud to serve Central Texas through intentional partnerships and committed giving.

GIVING BACK, GROUNDED IN PURPOSE.

We believe our history is only as strong as the communities we serve. Our charitable giving is focused on fostering local growth, preserving our shared heritage, and supporting non-profit partners that align with our mission of integrity and genuine hospitality.

JOSEPHINE STREET

A San Antonio legend since 1979, Josephine Street is an “un-polished” roadhouse that has stood its ground amidst the city’s modern growth. Our commitment to preservation is best seen in the massive 500-year-old oak tree that grows directly through the center of our roof, a living testament to the history of the land.

The Texas-inspired menu is built on comfort and flavor, from chicken fried steak and pork chops to a standout beef tenderloin sandwich, each crowned with a signature onion ring. Known for steaks and strong whisky, Josephine Street also surprises with unique offerings like anticuchos and wilt salad, making it far more than your average neighborhood spot.

THE GRAPEVINE

A favorite in the heart of Gruene, The Grapevine is an easygoing wine bar with something for every palate, from casual sippers to serious wine enthusiasts and craft beer fans. With a thoughtfully curated selection of Texas wines and beer, plus gifts for your favorite drinking buddy, it’s a place worth lingering a little longer.

Whether you’re exploring wines by the glass or settling in with a recommendation from the knowledgeable staff, The Grapevine invites you to unwind and enjoy. Sip in the shady garden or on the front patio while listening to live music on most weekends, all in a setting that feels both elevated and comfortably laid-back.

DOWN ON GRAYSON

A modern classic in San Antonio’s historic Pearl District, Down on Grayson was built to be the city’s ultimate “backyard” gathering spot. The architecture is airy and industrial, featuring high ceilings and a sprawling, oak-shaded patio that serves as a sanctuary in the heart of the city.

Our chef-driven menu focuses on honest American fare—ranging from fresh, vibrant salads to expertly charred burgers—all served with the same unpretentious hospitality that defines our brand family. It is a contemporary landmark where the community comes together to celebrate the San Antonio sun and great food.

CANTINA DEL RIO

A Gruene favorite since 2010, Cantina del Rio sits tucked along the Guadalupe River just steps from Gruene Hall. Shaded by towering oak trees, this lively spot offers a relaxed setting where guests can gather inside, on the front porch, or out back in the breezy yard.

The menu delivers comfort and flavor with classics like enchiladas and tacos alongside unexpected standouts like burgers and fries, including the local favorite El Rey Burger. Pair it all with a margarita made from top-shelf tequila and fresh-squeezed lime juice, widely known as one of the best in town, and settle into the easygoing atmosphere that keeps people coming back.

MOZIE'S

Just across the street from Gruene Hall, Mozie’s is a lively hangout where classic American fare gets a flavorful upgrade. Set among original brick walls and home to the longest bar in town, it’s a boisterous yet comfortable spot to grab a drink, catch a game, or settle in after a show.

From sliders and all-beef hot dogs to a stacked turkey sandwich and signature spaghetti with a massive meatball, the menu delivers scratch-made favorites with care. Pair it with a cold beer or a pour of whiskey, and don’t miss the iconic Shiner Bock shoestring onion rings. With late nights, big screens, and a welcoming crowd, Mozie’s is where good food and good times meet.

H.D. GRUENE MERCANTILE

Established in 1904, the H.D. Gruene Mercantile once served as the commercial heart of Gruene, a place where neighbors gathered and everyday essentials were shared. Reestablished in 2026, it returns to that original spirit, blending historic character with a fresh, modern retail experience rooted in connection and community.

Today, the Mercantile offers a thoughtfully curated selection of clothing, gifts, and goods that honor its past while feeling relevant for today. With an emphasis on timeless style and craftsmanship, it remains a welcoming destination for locals and visitors alike, carrying forward a legacy built on discovery, quality, and small-town charm.

GRUENE HALL

Built in 1878, Gruene Hall stands as Texas’ oldest continually operating dance hall and a true icon of the state’s music heritage. Nestled in the heart of historic Gruene, the Hall has remained largely unchanged, with its weathered wooden floors and open-air design preserving the spirit of generations past while continuing to welcome new ones.

A cornerstone of the Texas music scene, Gruene Hall has hosted everyone from rising songwriters to legends like George Strait, Lyle Lovett, and Willie Nelson. Today, it remains a place where authenticity leads, live music thrives, and the timeless energy of Texas culture brings people together under one historic roof.

Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar

Opened in 1977 inside a restored 1878 cotton gin, the Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar has become one of Texas’ most iconic dining destinations. Situated on a bluff above the Guadalupe River, its historic setting blends rustic charm with a warm, welcoming atmosphere that has drawn locals and visitors for decades.

With most menu items made from scratch daily, the Gristmill delivers a true taste of Texas, from chicken fried steak and award-winning ribs to its famous towering onion rings. Multi-level patios and spacious dining rooms offer sweeping river views, while a full bar pours local beers, classic cocktails, and approachable wines, making it just as fitting for a casual meal as it is for a special occasion.
